IOL: Pro-Ukrainian rally disrupted in South Africa by song "Sigma-boy"
A pro-Ukrainian rally was disrupted in the South African Republic ( SA ), as reported by the Independent Online (IOL) publication.
The Ukrainian Association of South Africa (UASA) organised a demonstration with posters at the popular Whale Bone Pier in Umhlanga. As UASA representative Katya Fedkina explained, they demanded that South Africa and the world community condemn the Russian special military operation.
A few minutes after the event began, a group with Russian flags approached them. The song "Sigma-boy" was playing from the speakers as musical accompaniment. The police had to intervene and separate the groups.
On February 7, the Center for Combating Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) called the world-famous Russian song "Sigma-boy" performed by 12-year-olds Betsy (real name - Svetlana Chertyshcheva) and Maria Yankovskaya , propaganda. The department pointed out that the song went viral on TikTok, YouTube and Spotify, "capturing the attention of young people around the world." "Russia has long used music as a "soft power" tool, reinforcing its narratives and cultural influence through it," the NSDC said.
